Know Before You Go: Road Closures Near Rocket Arena
Guests attending events at Rocket Arena should plan for extra travel time due to ongoing road construction in the area surrounding downtown Cleveland. Two active projects are currently affecting traffic patterns near the arena, and both are expected to continue through the fall. Here's what you need to know before you head downtown.
E. 9th Street Ramp Closure
As part of the ongoing Innerbelt construction project, the eastbound I-90 exit ramp to East 9th Street is currently closed.
- Closure began: June 29, 2026
- Expected duration: Through late October 2026
- Why: Crews are removing, replacing, and relocating the existing ramp as part of broader improvements to the regional highway system.
Guests who typically use this ramp to access Rocket Arena should plan an alternate route and build in additional time, particularly for weeknight and weekend events with heavier traffic volume.
Huron Road & Ontario Street Lane Restrictions
Since Monday, June 22, guests should also expect lane restrictions on Huron Road and Ontario Street between the Detroit-Superior Bridge and the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge. These restrictions are expected to continue through mid-November.
- Huron Road eastbound (between Detroit Avenue and Ontario Street): Reduced to a single lane. Additional turn lanes have been added at intersections to help manage flow.
- Ontario Street southbound (between Huron Road and Carnegie Avenue): Reduced to a single lane.
- Detroit Avenue eastbound at Huron Road: Reduced to one left-turn lane and one combined through/right-turn lane. The bicycle lane merges with vehicle traffic through this intersection.
- Parking restrictions: May also occur on Huron Road between W. 3rd Street and Superior Avenue (north side/westbound).
Plan Ahead for Your Next Visit
With multiple active work zones surrounding the arena, we recommend:
- Building in extra time for your commute, especially if you typically approach via I-90 East or Huron Road.
- Checking real-time traffic conditions before you leave.
- Considering alternate routes into downtown if you regularly use the E. 9th Street ramp.
- Following signage in the Huron Road and Ontario Street corridor, where turn lanes and lane configurations have changed.
We know construction can be an inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience as these regional improvements move forward. We'll continue to share updates as conditions change — check back here or follow Rocket Arena's channels for the latest before your next event.
